Mark - Photography
Mark Cocksedge is a London-based photographer who works closely with the design industry, specialising in portraiture, interiors, architecture and editorial photography. He's known for his honest, down to earth approach to photography, and ability to create a personal connection between subject and camera.
After studying Graphic Arts and Design at Leeds Met University – where he received a grounding in traditional methods of shooting, processing and developing images – Cocksedge assisted documentary photographer John Angerson, and fashion photographer Dan Kennedy, shooting the likes of Grayson Perry, David Hockney, Mary Berry and Peter Capaldi.
He also spent time in Washington DC documenting the Brave New Voices poetry festival for award-winning documentary We Are Poets, and in Malawi, capturing the country's fashion and pattern-cutting industry for Khama and NGO Micro Enterprise Africa.
Having spent the last several years developing his style, Cocksedge moved to east London to set up his own studio, and focus on his work with the design industry – including collaborating with his brother, designer Paul Cocksedge, whose work he's been documenting for over a decade.
To date, he's shot a host of up-and-coming designers as well as some of the biggest names in the business including John Pawson, Morag Myerscough, David Adjaye, Ron Arad, Mary Duggan, Thomas Heatherwick and the late Christo.
Cocksedge has photographed Sir David Attenborough for Norway's Aftenposten, documented design festivals around the world and been commissioned by clients including House of Hackney, COS, Wallpaper* and Swarovski.
His recent series, Two Metres Apart, is a visual record of the design industry on pause, shot on designers' and architects' doorsteps during the height of the lockdown.
Cocksedge undertakes commissions in the UK and worldwide, and works regularly with PR and design agencies including Luchford, 11.12, Camron PR and Bacchus.
Gresty - Design & Illustration
Gresty is a designer and Illustrator. He grew up in the North West, studied in Oxfordshire, built his career in London and became a Rye resident in 2019. Gresty thought he had moved to a sleepy historic town, a pebbles throw from the sea, and said, “in the process of compiling RyeZine, I have already met the most interesting people that rival any city folk.”
Gresty works for a diverse client base, from start-ups to established brands. Working directly with clients creates a strong understanding of their aspirations and what the project needs. Clients have included; Declassified Podcast, Invictus Games, HackedOff, Peak State, Toy Room Club, King’s College - Dear Diary Exhibition and GymBox.
Alongside creating branding, books, illustrations, et cetera, Gresty likes to keep personal creative projects running concurrently. He wrote and illustrated the children’s books An A to Z of Twords and One for Sorrow. Gresty is currently creating an ultra-detailed series of planet illustrations, starting with Moonshine; Mars and Venus, which will build into a set of prints.
And now RyeZine magazine, which includes his design, illustrations, interviewing and curating the content.
Mark and Gresty are good friends that originally shared a studio in Hackney before Gresty moved to East Sussex. The first project they worked on together was the Violin Factory, a location and events space and a Grand Designs project.
